The Early Word: Date Set For Historic Home Tour

Four historic residences featured at this year's event.

1. This year's House Tour Select, produced by Fort Greene Association, highlights the interiors and exteriors of four historic Fort Greene homes in a showcase of the neighborhood's spirit, creativity and beauty. Offerings include a brunch buffet, wine tasting and gift bags. , 240 Dekalb Ave. May 5, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. $75 (members); $85 (non-members).

"," a documentary co-presented with the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, follows a young woman caught between her Buddhist parents who risked everything to emigrate from Burma and expect their daughter to comply with an arranged marriage. Includes Q&A with director Melissa Johnson.  BAM Rose Cinemas, 30 Lafayette Ave. 6:50 p.m. Free.

3. incorporating self-defense techniques, with DJ Ant Marshall of Lyricist Lounge providing the tunes. Nova Bar Brooklyn, 885 Pacific St. 7 p.m. $15.

4. Shoot Hoops Not Guns, Inc. launches the to help combat the gun violence that continues to claim the lives of young people in Fort Greene Houses—and in other parts of Brooklyn and NYC. , 702 Fulton St. 9:30 p.m. Free (donations encouraged).
