Clinton Hill Library to Close During Summer

The Clinton Hill branch of the Brooklyn Public Library will close during the summer to allow for systemic and building improvements, said a member of Community Board 2's youth and education committee Wednesday.

The library, located at 380 Washington Ave., will be closed for as long as it takes to install a new heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system, as well as a self-service checkout, the committee noted.

A representative from the Brooklyn Public Library met with the committee to discuss the changes, but did not specify the length of time it will take to implement them. However, it is thought by the committee that the renovations could take a few months.

Once the changes have been made, librarians will no longer check-in or check-out books, but the library's staff will remain intact. Instead of spending time on tending to incoming and outgoing books, the staff will be free to "do other things," which have not yet been specified.
