Brooklyn Hospital Center Raises $1M at Founders Ball

Money raised includes BHC's largest private donation to date.

raised over $1 million—including their largest private donation yet—at the Brooklyn Hospital Foundation’s annual Founders Ball last week.

The event, held at Stage 6 at Steiner Studios at Brooklyn Navy Yard on June 6, was held to honor Robert Knakal, chairman and founding partner of Massey Knakal Realty Services, and Dr. Babu N. Jasty of the hospital’s cardiology department.

A $250,000 check from Dr. Kiran Patel and his wife, Dr. Pallavi Patel, was given to the hospital during the event, which will be used to fund and name the hospital’s Adult ER Waiting room.

“We are delighted with the show of support this evening,” said Dr. Richard Becker, BHC president and CEO, at the event. “At a time of economic uncertainty, it is truly gratifying to see the Brooklyn community rally around this wonderful hospital. We are very grateful to [the Patels], who realize the important role of safety net hospital to the people they serve. We are very excited about the hospital’s future, and the money raised here brings our dreams closer to reality."

“We hope this seed money will serve as a catalyst to stimulate and motivate others to contribute to the hospital's $6 million ER renovation,” Kiran Patel said. “In the meantime, ER patients will have a comfortable new place to wait.”
