Toxic School?

An antiquated and potentially hazardous material used as insulation in older buildings around the city was found in a massive quantities in P.S. 56 by the federal Environmental Protection Agency last week. Still, the city has been slow to address the possible contaminant, called PCBs, in part due to the massive amount of money it would require to purge all school buildings of the material.

Rats in the Toilet!

A woman spots a large rat in her apartment, and upon further investigation, finds hairs and splashed water around the toilet. She sounds the alarm (i.e. alerts the media) and we have another classic New York tale of horror: rats climbing out of the crapper. Prospect Heights Patch decided to dig a little deeper, and find out if this is really possible. The short answer: yes.

The editor of Fort Greene Patch played the role of foreign correspondent last Thursday, making the long journey to the South Slope for the re-opening of one of Brooklyn’s best watering holes, Freddy’s. Of course, this new location doesn’t have the same Prohibition-era aura to it, but it’s great all the same.

Slow Down in Boerum Hill!

Want to know how bad the speeding is around Boerum Hill? A local pol only needed 20 minutes to gather 80 signatures in protest to the speeding vehicles. Last week’s inaugural meeting of the Traffic Task Force was highlighted by an emphatic call for speed bumps in the neighborhood.
