The Video Forum of Park Slope closed after 15 years of business, and film lovers throughout the neighborhood are mourning the loss. Locals said the store was known for its knowledgeable employees, as well as the community of regulars that made the store a destination for anyone who appreciated cinema. As one would expect, the video store was simply unable to compete in this era of Netflix and streaming video. The owner described the last day of business as the “end of an era.”

Markowitz: Keep Prospect Park Open to Cars

The City Council is considering a bill that would ban cars from Prospect Park, and Borough President Marty Markowitz is against it. The Beep said the change would result in worst traffic on the thoroughfares surrounding Brooklyn’s most famous natural space. His stance is firmly in line with his other criticism of the Prospect Park West bike lane, which is also said unfairly targeted drivers and increased traffic.

Word on the street is that the owner of Peaches has big plans that would expand his eatery into two more storefronts. The owner isn’t saying much at the moment, but the editor of Bed-Stuy Patch is hot on the trail.

PTA Bandit Busted!

A local woman was formally charged with embezzling $100,000 in school money from PS 29 in Cobble Hill. Providence Hogan pleaded not guilty to the 22 charges leveled against her. The judge set her bail at $15,000, though prosecutors had pressed for much more because she posed a “flight risk.”
