Aug. 31: Nurses at Brooklyn Hospital Set to Strike Over Contract Dispute

Vote on a possible walk-out expected later this week.

1. Nurses at prepared to vote later this week on whether to strike as negotiations appeared to stall between their union and management, according to a source. Last Friday, the New York Nurses Association, which has more than 37,000 members across the state, filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board alleging that management had threatened to cut healthcare benefits "as a tactic to make them accept an unreasonable and unfair contract."

2. The Atlantic Avenue exit ramps on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway will be closed completely Wednesday 6 p.m. to Thursday 6 a.m. to repair damage caused by Tropical Storm Irene. 

3. Brooklyn author Myla Goldberg (author of the bestselling novel "Bee Season") celebrates the release of the paperback edition of her new novel "The False Friend" with at Greenlight Bookstore.
