Aug. 25: Open Mic at Greenlight

An open call tonight for local writers, poets and performers.

1. Hosted by nationally recognized young performer and poet Angel Nafis, Greenlight Bookstore's  offers the opportunity for local poets and performers to bring their work to the microphone. The wordsmithery starts at 7:30 p.m. 

2. Just because you can't make it to Russia, it doesn't mean Russia can't come to you. In the latest edition of Ballet in Cinema, see a screening of "" tonight at BAM at 7 p.m.

3. Starting Monday, Aug. 29, city DOT will be replacing outside girder connections on the westbound (Staten Island bound) Brooklyn-Queens Expressway between Atlantic Avenue and Cadman Plaza. The work will take place between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. and will cause the closing of the right and center lanes.

4. Hurricane Irene brushed past the Bahamas late Thursday night with its sights still set on the U.S. East Coast. According to current weather models, the storm is expected to impact the New York area Sunday morning. 

5. Alternate side parking rules are in effect.
