Aug. 23: Beer Stein Holding Contest

A (peculiar) test of endurance kicks-off at local watering hole.

1. Some people can really hold their beer. Literally. At 's beer-mug holding contest, strong-armed contestants must hold a 1-liter stein filled to the top with beer at arm’s length for as long as possible. Hilarity and fun ensues. The hijinks begins at  at the beer garden at 710 Fulton St., between S. Portland Avenue and S. Oxford Street. 

2. Don't forget the fresh fruits and vegetables on tap today at the Myrtle Avenue Community-run . Offerings this week include maple syrup from Poorfarm Farm in Vermont. 

3. For the second and final day, BAMCinematek shows from New York filmmaker Milt Moses Ginsberg.
