Atlantic Terminal Eyesores to Stay in Place a Little Longer
The large granite sarcophagi outside of Atlantic Terminal won't be removed until later this year.
The large boulder-like security sarcophagi outside of Atlantic Terminal will remain in place a little longer, as the MTA's plans to have them removed and replaced by stainless steel cylinders has been pushed back, says the Brooklyn Paper.
The MTA originally planned to remove the oversized granite stones last month, says the report, but as of now, a spokesman for the agency would only say that the $6 million sarcophagi removal would happen during the “early part” of a year-long construction project.
"They’re an eyesore," resident Denise Davies, who lives within walking distance of Atlantic Terminal, told the Paper.

According to the Paper, the MTA announced last August that the boulders would be replaced by metal bollards in February 2012.
The new metal cylinders, approved by the NYPD, will be tough enough to stop a 15,000-pound truck driving 50 miles per hour, says the article.
