Apartment Dwellers Living on High Should Evacuate, Warns NOAA

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration warns that high rise dwellers should not stay in their apartments if they live above a certain floor.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (fourth paragraph in the link to NOAA's site) warns that residents living above the tenth floor of high rise buildings should leave their apartments before Hurricane Irene.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) also makes the same suggestion.

High wind velocity at altitudes at the tenth floor level and above increase the possibility that windows can be blown out. Resident should should also be sure not to stay in low floors, if they are prone to flooding.
