A Family Feud and a Dangerous Lover's Quarrel: This Week's Police Blotter

A rundown of crimes reported in the 88th Precinct, which covers Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

The following arrest information was supplied by the New York Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Evening iPhone Theft on Ashland Place

On Sept. 26 at around 6 p.m., a woman was walking her dog near 217 Ashland Pl between Fulton Street and Dekalb Avenue when two suspects approached her from behind, quickly grabbing her $450 iPhone and fleeing the scene. A search of the neighborhood was conducted immediately after with no results.

Teen Arrested in Attempted Subway Robbery

A 19 year old woman was approaching a turnstile in the Clinton Avenue and Washington Avenue G train station on Sept. 26 at around 5 p.m. when she was approached from behind by two suspects who attempted to snatch an iPod from the victim’s purse. One of the suspects, a 15-year-old male, fled before he could attain the iPod and was arrested within minutes outside the train station.

Man Robbed at Gunpoint by Bicycle Riding Bandits

A 27-year-old man was robbed on Emerson Place and Willoughby Avenue on Sept. 26 at 10:50 p.m. The two suspects approached the victim, displayed a handgun and stated, “You don‘t want to die for your bag.” The suspects then took the victim’s messenger bag, which contained an iPhone, two credit cards, and a MetroCard, totaling $370 in value. The suspects then fled the scene by bicycle. A search of the area was conducted immediately after but the suspects were not found.

Teen Attacked for iPod

A teenage boy was attacked and robbed on Saint Felix Street on Sept. 27 at 3:15 p.m. The suspect grabbed the victim by the arm and punched him in the stomach. He then proceeded to take the victim’s black and silver iPod, worth $410. According to the victim, the suspect was with three other males at the time of the crime, but the victim could only identify one. The victim sustained only minor injuries.

Teen Threatened and Robbed by Two Suspects

A 14-year-old boy was walking on Clinton Avenue towards Park Avenue on Sept. 28 at around 3:15 p.m. when two suspects approached him from behind. One of the suspects said “If you don’t give me something I’m going to punch you in the face” while the other took a Droid cell phone from the victim’s pocket. The suspects fled on foot down Clinton Avenue.

iPad Worth $800 Stolen in Street Attack

Two suspects stole an $800 iPad on Sept. 29 at 10:30 p.m. The victim was walking on Saint James Place and Gates Avenue when the first suspect punched him in the neck and then grabbed his iPad and fled on foot. One of the suspects, a 17-year-old male, was arrested minutes later.

Teen Arrested in Robbery

On Sept. 30 a man was robbed of $400 worth in items at 11:45 a.m. near 175 Willoughby St between Fleet Place and Navy Street. An 18 year old male was arrested an hour later on Park Avenue and Cumberland Street.

Woman Arrested After Choking and Attempted Robbery

A woman was attacked on Sept. 30 at 8:10 p.m. inside Fort Greene Park near South Portland Avenue and Dekalb Avenue. The suspect approached the victim and choked her while trying to grab the victim’s purse from her shoulder. The suspect, a 16-year-old female, was found and arrested during a search of the area.

Young Boy Robbed at Target

An 11-year-old boy was robbed at the Target department store on 139 Flatbush Ave near the Atlantic Terminal on Sept. 30 at 10:05 p.m. Two females who asked to use the phone to call their father approached the boy. When the boy refused, one of the women said, “Give me your phone or I‘ll hurt you.” The boy then handed his phone over and the suspects fled the scene. A security camera has captured some footage of the suspects.

Woman Robbed on B26

On Oct. 1 at 5:30 p.m., a woman was sitting on the B26 bus going east along Fulton Street when a suspect approached her and removed the victim’s $300 iPhone 4 from her hand. The suspect immediately fled the bus and went in an unknown direction.

Woman’s Ear Cut Off in Attack by Family Members

A 20-year-old woman got into an argument with her aunt and cousins on Sept. 26 at around 9:15 p.m. on Washington Avenue between Fulton Street and Gates Avenue. The woman’s aunt along with a cousin attacked their family member by pushing her to the ground and kicking her. One of the suspects then used some sort of metal object to cut the victim’s right ear lobe off. Tyran and Denaisha Bethea, the victim’s 44-year-old aunt and her 18-year-old cousin, were arrested on Oct. 3.

Man Found Bleeding from Knife Wound

On Sept. 29 at 4:45 p.m. a police officer saw a man stumbling and bleeding from the head near 101 North Portland Ave between Myrtle Avenue and the BQE. The victim received medical treatment, and told officers he was struck on the head with a knife, causing the cut to his head. A 44-year-old female was arrested a short time later at the location of the crime.

Woman is Victim of Drive-by Assault

On Sept. 30 at 7:05 p.m., a woman was driving northbound on Flatbush Avenue. A vehicle pulled up beside her and the driver threw a book at the woman, hitting her in the face. The license plate of the suspect’s vehicle is FPE-5404. The woman was uninjured in the attack.

Lover’s Quarrel Turns Dangerous

On Sept. 30 at 7:45 p.m. on Carlton Avenue between Atlantic Avenue and Lafayette Avenue, a woman was arguing with her lover over a text message he’d received from another woman. The man proceeded to slap the victim. He then hit the victim on the head with a candle and strangled her with a belt. Jaime Johnson was arrested about an hour after the crime took place and upon further investigation, police found that an active warrant was already out for his arrest in another crime.

Cop Assaulted While Attempting Arrest

At 8:10 p.m. on Sept. 30 inside the Ingersoll housing area, a police officer saw a young man smoking marijuana. The officer attempted to arrest the man, but the suspect struggled, punching the officer twice. Twenty-two year old Messiah Sosa was arrested immediately, and upon arrest police found that he already had an open arrest warrant for another crime.

Truck Burglarized on Willoughby and Waverly Avenues

On Sept. 24 at around 2 p.m. a man’s truck was burglarized on the corner of Waverly Avenue and Willoughby Avenue. The suspect mace off with a Cannon camera, a cell phone, a credit card, some important papers, and the victim’s checkbook totaling $320 in value.

Suspect Robs Truck in Early Morning Burglary

On Sept. 27 at 5:55 a.m., a suspect entered a man’s truck at 16 Hall St between Flushing Avenue and the BQE. The suspect stole about $500 worth in items, including two purple Sprint Lotus cell phones and a Sears credit card.

Apartment Burglarized of $3,700 Worth in Items

On Sept. 21 a resident at a building on North Portland Avenue between Myrtle Avenue and the BQE left her apartment on vacation, leaving her apartment empty but her niece with keys to check on the victim’s cat. On Sept. 29, the victim’s niece discovered that the apartment was burglarized. The suspect stole around $3,700 worth in items, including four televisions, a computer, and a printer.

Brooklyn Hospital Room Robbed

A woman was using the bathroom inside Brooklyn Hospital on 121 Dekalb Ave between Ashland Place and Fort Greene Place at about 1:00 p.m. on Sept. 26 when she heard someone rummaging through her bag outside the bathroom door. The victim left the bathroom only to see the suspect running down a hospital hallway. The victim searched the room and found her bag missing. The bag contained $150 worth in items, including the victims work ID and three credit cards. Video cameras may be available to help police find the suspect.

Woman Robbed on Busy Train

At around 8:00 p.m. on September 21st, a woman was traveling on a crowded train to her home on Saint James Pl between Gates Avenue and Fulton Street. She returned home to find her $300 Apple iPhone missing from her bag.

Workout Gone Wrong at Crunch Fitness

A woman left her belongings inside an unlocked locker at the Crunch Fitness at 691 Fulton Street between Saint Felix Street and Ashland Place on Sept. 22 at around 6:30 p.m. The victim returned to her locker at 8:30 p.m. to find her belongings missing, including two debit cards and $109 in cash.

Burglary at "I Store Green" Storage Facility

A woman stored two items, an LG flat screen TV and a twin size bed comforter, at the I Store Green storage facility at 12 Hall St between Flushing Avenue and the BQE on August 30th. She went to the facility on Sept. 27to find both items gone but the lock on the storage facility not tampered with. There may be video footage of the suspects available.

Woman Robbed on B38 Bus

A young woman was robbed on the B38 bus on Sept. 28 at around 11:20 a.m. The victim got off the bus to find her wallet missing, containing her social security card and three other identification cards. According to the victim, she followed the bus and was told by the driver that a male was seen exiting the bus with her wallet.

Credit Card Caper at Citibank

A woman reported her credit card was stolen sometime between noon and 1:00 p.m. on Sept. 27 from the Citibank at 79 Hanson Pl between Saint Elliot Place and South Portland Avenue. The suspect didn’t realize her card was missing, but received a call from Citibank citing unauthorized charges in the amount of $721. The victim also claimed that the suspect deposited forged checks into her account in order to take money out.

Clubber Becomes Victim of Burglary

On Sept. 10 a man left his bag at Touché Nightclub on 46 Washington Ave between Flushing Avenue and the BQE. He received the bag days later from an acquaintance on September 17th, but discovered that his wallet was missing from the bag. The victim’s wallet contained two debit cards and two credit cards. All the cards have been cancelled and the victim does not believe his acquaintance is the perpetrator of the crime.
