5 Things to Do This Week: Art Exhibit, Texas Hold 'Em, Writing Workshop

Don't stay home this week when there is so much going on in Brooklyn. Here are our picks for things to do:

Monday:

Find out what's happening in Fort Greene-Clinton Hillwith free, real-time updates from Patch.

Avoid the Monday blues and get your funny bone tickled at Comic Diversity, a stand-up comedy show at Fort Greene's legendary Brooklyn Moon. At 8 p.m. at 745 Fulton St. comedy's rising stars and a mix of established players will entertain all who come, for free!

Tuesday:

As Martin Luther King, Jr. Day approaches, remember the man's life and legacy by visiting at 1638 Bedford Ave. The exhibit is based upon the art depicting King's work, some of which was rendered by artists that personally knew him. Though the exhibit is free, tours are given by appointment only. Please contact Izell Glover at (718) 270-4920 for more information. 

Wednesday:

Feeling lucky? At 7:30 p.m. the World Poker Tournament is holding a free Texas Hold 'Em session at Piramide Mexican Bistro at 499 5th Ave. Participants will have a chance to win a $ 10,000 buy-in to the Las Vegas Tournament. 

 

Thursday:

Have a little writer at home? Seven to ten year olds can get helpful writing hints from Debbie Officer at the creative writing workshop at Gumbo at 493 Atlantic Ave. The workshop begins at 11 a.m. and run every Tuesday through March 1. Sessions are 45 minutes long and cost $120 for all sessions. 

Friday:

Mike Messer, lead singer of the Dirty Sock Funtime Band, as seen on Nick Jr., will be joining the Dean Street singalong on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Head to 755 Dean St. and chip-in $5 for the family to join in on the fun.
