5 Things: Take a Mixed Martial Arts Class, Draw, Run

Events and happenings in and around the borough you won't want to miss.

 

1. Go Green. On Saturday, celebrate the re-opening of Habana Outpost, a home-style Latin American restaurant located on Fulton Street, with a day of eco- and family-friendly fun. Habana Works is the non-profit branch of the Habana family, which provides free, hands-on programs that celebrate urban environmentalism in the Brooklyn community. The Earth Day Expo is an opportunity for our neighbors to join us in spreading the love by participating in the Earth day program while sharing resources and ideas about sustainable living! 12-5 p.m., 757 Fulton St., Free.

2. Try something new (for free!). Class One Mixed Martial Arts and CrossFit, located at 85 4th Ave., will have . To celebrate, free classes will be offered all day from 10 am to 4 pm. Class One features a broad range of martial arts including MMA, Boxing, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling, Sanda (Chinese style kickboxing) plus the most complete fitness program CrossFit.

3. Draw. The Brooklyn ARTery is holding a drawing class this Sunday. Working from a live model, this class will provide participants with inspiration and helpful tips to develop and improve your drawing skills. Whether you have been practicing art regularly or haven’t touched a crayon since you were a kid, it can be empowering to learn new ways of seeing or to incorporate different techniques. Bring soft pencils: 3B, 4B, 5B ,  charcoal, eraser, crayons, sketching paper and any other drawing material you feel like trying out. $25, 3:30 p.m., 1020 Cortelyou Rd. 

4. Run. This Sunday, thousands will gather at Central Park to participate in The More Magazine/Fitness Magazine Women’s Half-Marathon, celebrating its 10th Anniversary. Didn't sign up in time? You can still head to the park to cheer on those who will be pounding the pavement!
