5 Things: Summer Streets Artist Proposal Deadline Extended to March 1

What you need to know, pre-coffee.

1. Harness your creativity: The deadline for the 2013 Summer Streets artist request for proposals has been extended until March 1.The project enables artists or artist teams to create "interactive, site responsive installations" to complement Summer Streets, during which certain main drags in the city are shut down to vehicular traffic for three weekends in August, enabling residents to play, walk, cycle and run. Selected projects will be granted up to $5,000. Interested? Apply here.

2. Be aware: Learn all about the crime in your neighborhood at the glance of a GoogleMap. A new website called SpotCrime uses adorable cartoon icons to depict location-specific crimes ranging from shootings to burglaries, using data pulled from police records (of dubious legality) and various public sources.

3. Stare into the fire. If you happen to find yourself in Carroll Gardens between 6 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday, don't be alarmed by the giant fireball you may see exploding in the sky off of Union Street: It's for a TV show, and yes, the police are aware that it's happening.

4. Relive the wintry weekend: The Prospect Park Alliance has a giant photo gallery of the weekend's snowy fun. If you were at the park on Saturday, there's a good chance you're in there somewhere.

5. Leave your car: Alternate side parking is suspended today in observance of Abraham Lincoln's birthday.
