5 Things: Fun for the Fourth

A roundup of Brooklyn events.

Practice Your John Hancock. Let the kids celebrate Independence Day by making a plumed hat and signing a reproduction of the Declaration of Independence at the Lefferts Historic House in Prospect Park. 1 to 4 p.m., $3 suggested donation.

All Aboard. Tour the 106-foot historical replica of the Clearwater, a shipping sloop that sailed the Hudson River in the 18th and 19th centuries. Speak with the captains, learn about environmental issues and experience the Hudson from up high. Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park. 3 to 5 p.m. Attendance is free.

Get In The Water. Head to the Pier 2 Dock in Brooklyn Bridge Park for a free kayak session. Children under 18 must have an adult present and you must sign a waiver before getting on the water. 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Festival On The Fourth. The 42nd annual International African Arts Festival kicks off tonight with an evening concert series from 5 to 9 p.m. Commodore Barry Park, Navy Street (between Park and Flushing Avenues). $3 suggested donation for adults, $1 for children.

Don’t Move the Car. Forget about those alternate side parking rules – they’re suspended today.
