5 Things: Bill and Chelsea Clinton at BAM, 10-Minute Plays

Five things you should know for Monday, March 4

1. Come to Madiba Restaurant in Fort Greene for the FreshlyGround Pre-Party at 195 Dekalb Ave. between Adelphi and Carlton, 6:30 p.m. It will be a night of music, culture and wine as the group kicks off this yea’rs Annual Shared Interest Gala at Gotham Hall on March 18, with the official pre-party. Cape Classics will be presenting a wine tasting together with passed hors d’oeuvres, between 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.

2. Check out the highly anticipated “10-Minute” Plays. You will laugh, you will cry, and you won’t want to miss a beat. Up and coming new writers and directors from the New York City area present 10 minute plays in this biweekly event. Coocoa Bar, 228 7th Ave., in Park Slope, 7–8:30 p.m. $5 + drink.

3. Come listen in on an important, rare and intimate conversation with President Clinton & Chelsea Clinton at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, 30 Lafayette Ave., 7–9 p.m. President Clinton and Chelsea Clinton discuss the life-changing work of the Clinton Foundation and the influence that the next generation of donors and activists will have on modern philanthropy. This interactive dialogue is presented by the Clinton Foundation Millennium Network, which invites future leaders and philanthropists to get involved in the work of the Clinton Foundation—improving global health, strengthening economies, promoting healthier childhoods, and protecting the environment. 4. Remember, the MTA increased tolls and fares on Sunday, March 3. Commuters can expect changes including the base fare for subways, local buses, SIR and Access-A-Ride is rising to $2.50 from $2.25; the base fare for express buses is rising to $6.00 from $5.50. A Single Ride Ticket purchased from MetroCard Vending Machines is rising to $2.75 from $2.50. To learn more about the changes, click here

5. Beginning Monday, March 4, through Saturday, March 9, The Macon Branch Library, located at 361 Lewis Ave. will present Imaging Ourselves: Women of Bedford-Stuyvesant, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. DIVAS for Social Justice will exhibit at this special exhibit. DIVAS for Social Justice celebrates five years of teaching digital photography while teaching young women in the community to critically look at the way women of color are portrayed in the media. In the summer of 2012 DIVAS participants created iconic screenprints of famous and community minded women from Bedford Stuyvesant and Brooklyn. Including: June Jordan, Shirley Chisholm, Elsie Richardson, Lena Horne, Velmanette Montgomery and Lia Neal. Come view our exhibition in the African American Heritage Center in honor of Women's History Month.
