5 Things: Jazz Music and Running for a Cause

What you should know about the weekend ahead.

 

1. Take in some great music. Brownstone Jazz Accoustic Sound Living Room Concerts will recognize Women's History Month this Friday from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. with tributes to some of the most legendary female Jazz musicians. There will be an open mic session after the scheduled performances as well. 107 Macon St. $20.

2. Run for a cause. Hosted by New York University's Doctorate of Physical Therapy program, the third Annual NYU DPT 5k Walk/Run for Physical Therapy Research will be held in Prospect Park on Saturday at 9 a.m. Whether an experienced athlete, first timer, teenager or senior citizen, get ready to lace up your running/walking shoes for physical therapy research! Funds will benefit the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research, with a small portion contributing to the graduation ceremony for the class of 2013.

3. Sing a song. The Brooklyn Doodles, a play group and music program starting at JACK in the spring, is holding an open house Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Classes are geared towards toddlers and children age 2 1/2-3yrs with musicians and group leaders. 505 1/2 Waverly Ave. Free.

4. Do Good. Those looking for free, family-friendly fun can bring their kids, friends and family to Times Square Studios (home of Good Morning America) on Saturday from 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. to be a part of Good Deeds Day – a day-long celebration that will inspire the whole family to discover the joy of doing a good deed. Times Square Studios, located at West 44th Street and Broadway, Free.
