The Early Word: Dog Owners Unite at Fort Greene Park

Sunday event features coffee, treats and free training for people and their pets.

1. , a social event sponsored by ProspectBArk, , Calm Energy Dog Training and , gives Fort Greene pet owners a chance to come together for a morning of camaraderie, coffee and donuts. Also on tap: complimentary doggy bags filled with dog treats and a free training demonstration. Fort Greene Park. Sun., 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Free.

The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts and the African Film Fest celebrate the third week of their with a screening of The First Grader, a film by Justin Chadwick that follows the journey of a Kenyan vet who decides in his 80s that he deserves a long denied education—even if it means going to class with 6 year olds. Fulton Park, 1700 Fulton St. (Bed-Stuy) 7 p.m. Free.

3. This brings together beatboxing and 90s hip-hop to help Playgrounds4Autism in its mission to connect greenspaces with kids in need. Five Spot Soul Restaurant, 459 Myrtle Ave. Doors open at 8 p.m. Advance tickets are $10.

4. Registration opens Friday for giving residents a sense of the history behind Fort Greene's essential position during the early days of the fight for America's freedom. Fort Greene Park. Aug. 26, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sign-up at nyc.gov/parks/rangers/register.
