Raven 2.0: The Cake Man Returneth

Fort Greene dessert shop to reopen Monday under new management.

The tastiest thing to hit Fulton Street is coming back with a new emphasis on customer service, selection and—no surprise here—more .

, a Fort Greene culinary institution whose shop has been shuttered for weeks, will reopen on Monday, according to representatives from financial services firm Fountain Financial.

"We thought it was the best thing to do—to just start off from scratch," said the rep of the closure, confirming that the company had been brought on to work with Raven to revamp the 12-year-old business.

The rep said that complaints received on restaurant review sites like Yelp had been heard loud and clear—and that new management would hire more staff to take customer orders and make sure that shelves were stocked with Raven's famous cakes.

It's been a tough month for Cake Man Raven, born Raven Patrick De'Sean Dennis III in Harlem, and one of the most recognizable African-American culinary artists working in the city.

Last Thursday, Raven's close friend, Sylvia Woods, died just days before her 50th Jubilee celebration as founder of the iconic Sylvia's in Harlem.

To celebrate Woods' legacy, Raven will hold his 5th Annual Cupcake Parade on Aug. 1 at 9 a.m. in Harlem, with invited guests Chris Rock and Michael K. Williams, best known as Omar from the HBO's series The Wire.

This year's parade will be the first not to take place on Fulton Street in Fort Greene.

For longtime customers like Vickie, a former Flatbush resident who now lives in Queens, the return of the Cake Man can't come soon enough.

"There's no place like it," she said outside the closed shop. "It would be a shame if it went away for good."
