Patch Picks: Boutiques!

Want that styling top to go with your blazing hot skirt, but just don’t know where to get it? Well, if there’s one thing Fort Greene Patch knows, it’s fashion. Here’s our rundown of five boutiques that will help you strut your stuff on DeKalb Avenue like you were on the runway during Fashion Week.

Moshood

This store has been the center of African fashion in Fort Greene since the mid-1990s. The owner — who named the store after himself — hails from Nigeria, and built a brand that has been worn by the likes of Queen Latifah and Wesley Snipes.

This store has a diverse mix of apparel and accessories. Owner Regina Stone said that she purposefully puts in small orders of her products, so that each customer gets a sense of exclusivity. To top it off, Stone gives fashion consultations, where she will even accompany a client to other stores to help her pick out the best styles.

Tribal Truths

This boutique specializes in urbanized version of African style, with coats, jackets, hats, t-shirts, full-length wrap skirts, belts, and leather bags, all featuring bold colors. All the apparel in the store was designed by Brenda Bunson-Bey, a local with close ties to the community.

Byme Brooklyn

This store has a nice mix of clothes and accessories, as well as a solid shoe selection, including some stylish boots. There are also a few handbags to check out, and the prices are fairly reasonable.

Barking Brown

This boutique is managed by the same owner as Byme, and features a strong selection of jewelry and hats. The store also features a large selection of handbags and other accessories like bangles, sunglasses and scarves.
