From their exquisite sweet potato scones, to their moist and yummy German Chocolate cupcakes, to their flakey buttermilk biscuits, Heavenly Crumbs, located at 355 Franklin Avenue, on the border of Bed-Stuy and Clinton Hill, has carved out a reputation for being one of the best bakeries in town.
It’s hard to imagine they would want to change a thing. But they have: They’re now focusing on designer cakes!
Fashioned into virtually any object that represents the occasion, the cakes look as though they were carefully crafted by a sculpture or an architect, instead of a baker working with flour, sugar, eggs and milk.
Heavenly crumbs can make the cakes look like a bucket of popcorn or a bag of potato chips or a designer purse—chiseled to such clean, artistic perfection, they look so real you might feel guilty eating them!
“Baking is our passion and love. We are really sugar artist and bakers. So it was just really deciding what our focus should be,” said Shannon Pridgen, owner of Heavenly Crumbs. “We’re delicious, we’re beautiful. And it doesn’t matter if it’s some over-the top Liberace kind of job or if it’s simple; it’s about work that’s clean and finished.
A simple to elaborate cake can range from $60 to $425. The simple designs can be done in one day, and a more elaborate design can take 2-3 weeks.
“People bring in the concept; they may have something in their head,” said Pridgen. “And then we flush it out and bring it to life and put our own spin on it.
Heavenly Crumbs also offers free tastings by appointment only. For more information, visit their website.
