In addition to featuring fresh food weekly, the Greenmarket spearheads environmentally conscious initiatives.

Did you know the average New Yorker throws 46 pounds of clothing into the trash each year? That equals 5.7 percent of our city’s residential waste stream. The Greenmarket’s textile recycling program has helped collect one million pounds of unwanted clothing, linens and more since 2007. Make an environmental impact and a tax-deductible donation by bringing your clean and dry clothing, paired shoes, bedding, linens, hats, handbags, belts, fabric scraps 36"x36" or larger and other textiles to the Fort Greene Greenmarket. Rugs and carpeting are not accepted.

GrowNYC is a nonprofit organization helping provide access to healthy, fresh, local food for all New Yorkers. The organization also grows and maintains vibrant green spaces and community gardens, helps New Yorkers recycle more and reduce waste and provides hands-on educational programs. GrowNYC organizes over 40 Greenmarkets throughout the five boroughs.
