Barclays Center Brings Greenmarket Back To Flatbush Avenue

Now you can get your hoops fix and your honey fix all in the same place.

Here's a piece of little-known trivia to chew on: The first Greenmarket in Brooklyn was held in 1977 at the corner of Atlantic and Flatbush Avenues.

Now, thirty six years later, a new one will launch in nearly the exact same spot next Wednesday thanks to a partnership between Barclays Center and GrowNYC.

Beginning July 17 and occurring weekly from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through November 27, the new greenmarket will host nine vendors from nearby locales, including

  • American Seafood—Wild-caught fish and shellfish from Suffolk County, NY
  • Apple State Hilltop Family Farm—Honey from Sullivan County, NY
  • Artisan Oven, Central Bakery—Breads and baked goods from Bergen County, NJ
  • Body and Soul Bakery—Baked goods from King's County, NY
  • Goodale Farm—Vegetables and dairy from Suffolk County, NY
  • Jersey Farm Produce—Vegetables, herbs, and small fruit from Hunterdon County, NJ

  • John D Madura Farm—Vegetables from Orange County, NY
  • Rick’s Picks—Pickled vegetables from Dutchess County, NY
  • Terhune Orchard—Orchard fruit from Dutchess County, NY
“Barclays Center and Greenmarket are a natural partnership,” said Rick Field of Rick’s Picks, in a prepared statement. “Barclays Center has had the freshest entertainment from day one, and Greenmarket has had the freshest produce and added value products for over 35 years. It's an honor to sell Rick's Picks here, less than half a mile from where my recipes were developed in a one-bedroom apartment in Prospect Heights.  And I can walk to work!”
