"It's fun to think about writing about Brooklyn, which I've never actually done before," Egan said at yesterday's celebration over her Pulitzer win for 'Goon Squad.'

At the event at MoCADA's gallery space yesterday, elected officials, community members and fellow writers lauded the Fort Greene resident not just for her work but also for being a good neighbor.

"Even with all of this national media attention, she still found time to talk to our book group," said Greenlight Bookstore co-owner Jessica Stockton-Bagnulo of Egan.

Providing the inspiration for the celebration was Councilwoman Letitia James, D-Brooklyn, who said she was first struck by what she called Egan's "genius" after reading a 2002 New York Times article she penned on the plight of homeless children.

"We are lucky to have her as a part of our community," James said.
