It’s one of the most cherished holiday stories of all time, and on Dec. 14, it’ll be opening right here in Fort Greene at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
The Nutcracker is a ballet originally adapted from a story by 19th century German author E.T.A Hoffmann.
It tells the tale of Clara Silberhaus, who is transported on Christmas Eve to a world where mice and toys go to war and nutcrackers turn into princes.
This year, The Nutcracker returns to BAM. It will be performed by the world renowned American Ballet Theatre and choreographed by ABT Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky.
According to BAM, “The Nutcracker is bound to be a treasured memory for years to come.”
The ballet will feature a live orchestra as well as sets and costumes by Richard Hudson. The Tony Award winner is also responsible for creating the amazing costumes in Broadway’s The Lion King.
Whether you’re just starting the tradition or you’ve seen The Nutcracker every year, the whimsical ballet is enjoyable for the whole family.
The performance will run from Dec. 14-Dec. 31 and tickets are between $25 and $120. For more info, go to www.bam.org.
