Report: BAM Ending Manhattan "Shuttle" Service

Manhattan theater lovers on their own, now.

A long-time bus service provided by BAM as a service to members coming from Manhattan will be coming to an end, according to a report in The New York Times' City Room blog.

According to a story published Monday night, BAM is choosing to end the bus service because of declining ridership.

The Brooklyn Academy of Music has subsidized the cost of the shuttle bus into the city for its Manhattan members as a service, in part to help drive up attendance.

Now, as Fort Greene and Downtown Brooklyn have established themselves as cultural centers — and much safer — the bus service is no longer needed.

After instituting two-way service in the 80's, the shuttle eventually switched to one way service five years ago, the report said.
