Freedom Fighters: Heroes and False Idols

On Saturday, Feb. 16, Rasu Jilani of Coup D'etat Arts presented “Freedom Fighters: Heroes and False Idols” an arts brunch at Soco Brooklyn Restaurant in Clinton Hill.

The art sale and exhibit is a tribute to Black History Month and beginning Saturday through the end of the month will celebrate the heroes and icons that assisted in shaping black history in America through their philosophies, activism, art, music, sports and personal sacrifices.

The exhibit showcases the works of Fuse Green, Tony Peralta, TTK, Suhail Smith, Sam Wilson, illustrators, painters and graphic artists from New York City, all of whom depicted the historical and mainstream impact people of the African Diaspora has had on the cultural fabric of the United States.

“Freedom Fighters: Heroes and False Idols” challenges its viewers to determine why each character is celebrated and whether, as icons, they are heroes... or false idols.
