MoCADA Bringing Film and Family Festival to Brooklyn

Month-long event also promises live performances, filmmaker panel discussions, and tributes to Whitney Houston.

 

Prepare yourselves for a month-long blowout of films, live performances and family activities in Brooklyn's Fulton Park this August.

The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) and African Film Fest (AFF) kicks off the beginning this Friday.

Featured events include new films of the African Diaspora, Q&A opportunities with directors, live performances, and a music video tribute to Whitney Houston. For the kids there will be art workshops, snacks, and the ever popular face painting. All capped off with the traditional costume dance party with music from "The Wiz."

This year's films feature subjects such as:

  • A documentary by two NYC girls about school food.
  • A history of civil rights pioneers in the Jim Crow South.
  • The story of a Kenyan freedom fighter's battle to learn to read.
  • The real story behind Sesame Street's Elmo.

The festival runs every Friday night throughout August in Fulton Park. Activities start at 7:00 p.m.
