Hunger Games Logo Designed by Pratt Professor

A Pratt design professor and his wife, Scholastic Inc.’s creative director, collaborated on the now-iconic mockingjay symbol.

A Brooklyn couple is responsible for the iconic “Hunger Games” logo, depicting a golden bird with an arrow, says the New York Daily News.

Scholastic Inc.’s creative director Elizabeth Parisi and her illustrator husband Tim O’Brien, a design professor at , came up with the idea for the logo for the bestselling books () in their Ditmas Park home, says the Daily News.

“It is not just a picture of a bird,” O’Brien told the Daily News. “It is something vulnerable. It is a symbol of the main character, Katniss, who is tough and beautiful at the same time.”

And while the logo may go down at O’Brien’s best-known work (although his art has graced the covers of both Time and Rolling Stone magazines), his best accolades are coming from his 12-year-old son, Cassius, says the article.

“It’s pretty cool,” O’Brien’s son told the Daily News. “Everybody in school reads (the books).”
