Get Out: What To Do This Weekend

Area events on tap for a hot July.

It's summertime in Brooklyn and these flip-flops are made for walking.

So follow our lead and head down Third Avenue, Flatbush or Fulton Street where you'll find great drinks, sports and flicks galore. This weekend we even stretched a bit beyond our usual borders and included an event in Prospect Park—but with a free Los Lobos concert at the end of the trek, it's worth it!

2nd Annual Kickstarter Film Festival

What? A one-night-only festival of documentaries, animated shorts, and experiential films curated by the popular indie fundraising site Kickstarter, as part of the Rooftop Films 2011 Summer Series.

Where? Roof of the Old American Can Factory, 232 Third St. at Third Avenue.

What? A monthly roving party on Fulton Street with over 40 participating merchants that goes all day and into the night. Featuring extended happy hours, lunch and dinner deals, cocktails while you shop, art happenings, live music, dance parties, performance pieces and more.

Where? Fulton Street in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

When? Fri., July 8 all day and night (most happy hour specials starting late afternoon – evening).

Celebrate Brooklyn: Los Lobos+Hello Seahorse!+Zigmat'

What? The Latin Alternative Music Conference showcases the best of the old guard with Los Lobos, along with newer fare from Mexico City’s Hello Seahorse!, Brooklyn electro rockers ZIGMAT and Raul Campos spinning in-between sets.

Where? Prospect Park Bandshell, 9th Street and Prospect Park West.

When? Fri., July 8 at 7 p.m. (gates open 6 p.m.).

How Much? Free.

 

USA World Cup Action

What? Drinking in the morning is something we generally avoid (except during brunch, holidays, hangover recoveries, or random Thursdays) but with the USA in the quarterfinals of the FIFA Women's World Cup this weekend, it's okay to make an exception. So head over to Mullane's and raise a glass with friends and strangers as USA squares off against powerhouse Brazil in the quarterfinals.

The Amazing Brooklyn Race

What? POGO Events presents The Amazing Brooklyn Race: "part scavenger hunt, part obstacles course, and all Brooklyn!" A series of clues lead you and your team around Brooklyn, gathering pictures of items needed to complete the course. The race covers a wide range of Brooklyn neighborhoods, so bring your MetroCard and a camera or camera phone.

Where? Grand Army Plaza-Union Street (under the arch).
