Selected artisans/vendor will work in conjunction with Pixelating curators to design an on site making component to the their table. Join us for this one-of- a –kind event featuring food, drink, and all things handmade in Brooklyn!

Date: January 21,
Time: 2:00-6:00PM
Location: 80 Hanson Place Brooklyn NY 11217

Brooklyn, NY December 12, 2011- MoCADA is reaching out to all the artists, knick knack makers, confectionary chefs, Fashion Designers, home haberdashers, inventers, and artisans of all kinds of hand made goods to participate in its first ever D-I-Y Fest. This festival is one part of 5 curatorial projects under the umbrella Pixelating. Pixelating is a curatorial series taking place in various formats from November 17, 2011 to February 25, 2012. Under the overarching theme of Pixelating, the curatorial series highlights the discreet elements that directly challenge notions of a universal Black identity.

The D-I-Y Fest was created to explore the movement of homemade goods in the black community. Contrary to misconceptions that the DIY movement does not include minority communities, this festival highlights the all-inclusive creations of Brooklyn artisans. The festival is not only meant to be a place to sell but to also learn and engage. This curated event will feature a cooking demonstration by Wendy Lopez and Jessica Jones from the cable access television show Food Heaven Made Easy. They are two nutritionists who have started their own public access cooking show to encourage healthy and cheap eating habits. There will also be a presentation by a local bartender/ drink specialist with an original drink designed specifically for the D-I-Y Festival. All of the vendors who are selected will have an on-site making component to their booth for the festival. This will give it a workshop feel. It will highlight the local people with talents to create and encourage people to buy goods from local entrepreneur.
