Greeneleaf jazz and Spoken Word: The Charlie Burnham Trio and Tara Betts

This Thursday join us for a great performance by The Charlie Burnham Trio and Tara Betts.The talented Charlie Burnham Trio is coming to Fort Greene Park for an evening of jazz and excitement. Lead member Charlie Burnham's in-demand violin playing and vocal strength has been gracing the music community for years. He has worked with Cassandra Wilson, James Blood Ulmer, Steven Bernstein, Susie Ibbara, Peter Apfelbaum, Henry Threadgrill, String Trio of New York, Ted Daniel, Medeski, Martin & Wood, and many others. Currently, he is working with guitarist Marvin Sewell and cellist Marika Hughes.

Tara Betts is the author of poetry collection Arc and Hue. A prolific and well regarded poet, Tara Betts has been featured on HBO's "Def Poetry Jam" and the Black Family Channel series "SPOKEN." She was chosen to represent Chicago at the National Poetry Slam and is currently a creative writing lecturer at Rutgers. "Gifted with exuberant imagination, a genuine poetic ear, and an unblinking readiness to look at the harrowing problems of the world, she is a poet to watch" (Annie Finch, author of Calendars). Her poetry poignantly deals with issues of race and gender and, through its narrative form, retains its humor, gravity, and appeal.
