Bob Bongard has been a fixture in Clinton Hill for most of his life. As the only child of vaudeville performers, he was given the gift of infinite creativity, first as a jazz musician, comic and singer, and now as a self-taught artist with a singular vision. Using primarily found objects, ink and pen, his work is truly of the street and features a variety of subjects he knows and loves, including chorus girls, musicians, buildings and gardens. His detailed drawings from memory of famous buildings and local architecture balance obsessive detail with a human quality, winning fans and collectors from all over the borough.
Bob was recently hospitalized, and this benefit exhibition is being presented by a consortium of his local friends and admirers to honor his artistic achievements. All work will be cash and carry with all proceeds going directly to the artist.
Reception: Wednesday, June 22, 7 - 9 p.m.
FREE with special performance by the artist himself!
