BAMcinématek Presents: Les dames du Bois de Boulogne

Part of the BAMcinématek series Bresson

Sat, Apr 14, 2012 at 4:45, 7, 9:30pm

Directed by Robert Bresson
With Paul Bernard, María Casares

(1945) 86min, 35mm

Bresson’s second feature (and his last to feature professional actors) is uncharacteristically lush in comparison to his austere later works, featuring ravishing cinematography and arch, poetic dialogue courtesy of Jean Cocteau. Spurned by her would-be lover (Bernard), a jealous woman (a marvelously mincing Casares) exacts her revenge by tricking him into marrying a prostitute. Based on a story from Diderot’s Jacques the Fatalist.
