A departure from the traditional documentary style, Cassidy and Shatzky’s nonfiction feature debut is a ciné-essay of the forgotten souls of a rural nursing home. Narrated by the facility’s youngest patient—whose intensely candid words are, by turns, mournful and macabre—The Patron Saints is an unflinching lyrical portrait of life on the periphery.
