Brooklyn Creates: An Aesthetic Exploration Of The Table

Brooklyn Glass and Brooklyn Metal Works forge an alliance for a special event.

Contemporary crafts devotees flocked to a unique event hosted by Brooklyn Glass at their Gowanus location last weekend.

The March 9th event marked the first time that Brooklyn Glass and Brooklyn Metal Works forged an alliance and invited the public to enjoy an evening of outstanding tabletop art and design, which also featured food and drink.

A  demonstration of glass blowing was executed by Edison Zapato, whose own glass creations were part of the display. Their joint goal was to promote the concept of visual appreciation of fine handcrafted metal and glass design's aesthetic value and it's utilitarian purpose.

The guests were served homemade brews and appetizers using glass and metal tableware created by some of the featured artisans. The food and beverage were presented by Brooklyn's own Shmorgasburg's Landhaus and Prospect Heights' Bitter & Esters, the city's first DIY brewery.

'Brooklyn Creates' was part of the annual Armory Arts Week which was in partnership with The Museum of Art and Design and Heller Gallery. The artists showcased in this debut event were Corey Ackelmire, Erin Daily, Sonja Fries, Shoji Miyazawa, Lucy Perluck, Sara Pfau, Joe Pillari, Katie Rearick, Brian Weissman, The Smith Shop and Jaydan Moore as well as Brooklyn Glass Design.
