Before I Die I Want To Attend These Brooklyn Events

A stay-at-home dad lists top neighborhood happenings inspired by the public art installation surrounding the future Shake Shack, "Before I Die I Want To ___."

The holiday season is upon us and there is not a shortage of things to do in Brooklyn with your kids over the next week. Do you find yourself constantly repeating the story of Chanukah? Are your kids grossed out because your significant other keeps chasing you down with the mistletoe? Or are they just ready to spread some good holiday cheer? Then get out of the house and take advantage of these fun activities and events with your kids.

5.  “Before I Die I Want To __," Fulton Mall at Adams Street, Everyday.

The Fulton Mall has its decorations up and the holiday music is blasting. Do a little shopping with the family and keep it all in perspective by visiting the public art installation set up outside of the new Shake Shack at Fulton and Adams streets. See how you, your kids and your Brooklyn neighbors answer the question, “Before I die..."

4.  The Brooklyn Waldorf School’s Winter Fair, 11 Jefferson Ave., Dec. 10, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

My son likes to frequent the winter fairs at local schools in order to stock up at the cookie making stations. I like to go to envision him in school someday as a creative, intelligent, well behaved student. That’s all I want for Christmas Santa (and maybe the DirecTV game day football package as well).

3.  , Prospect Park Zoo, Dec. 10-11, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

What’s that in the zoo humming, "I saw mommy kissing Santa Claws"? Come see the Pallas’s cats get their presents this weekend.

2.  Origami Class, Taro's Origami Studio, 95 Seventh Ave., Dec. 9, 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Have your child try folding paper that doesn't sit in your favorite book or the filing cabinet (Oh that’s what the property deed looks like with raspberries wiped all over it!). Taro’s offers origami classes for kids. Origami snowflakes could help put your child in a great holiday mood and save your personal library.

1. American Ballet Theater's The Nutcracker, Brooklyn Academy of Music, Dec. 14, 7 p.m.

It is a legal requirement to include The Nutcracker on every top events for the holidays list. I can be a rebel, but in this case I have included it because my boy loves to dance. He is a modern day Jimmy Elliot and who knows maybe I'll be watching him perform in The Nutcracker some day.
