Aug. 19: Rooftop Films, New Orleans Jazz and More

There's plenty of heat out there, even with summer on the wane.

The signs are everywhere: the slightly saturated tint of the leaves, a sudden cool breeze, the back-to-school sales that are beginning to pop up here and there.

It might be not the end of summer. But it definitely feels like the beginning of the end.

1. Speaking of good things coming to an end: Rooftop Films Summer Series at the Old American Can Factory comes to a close with a showing of "World's Best Dad" tonight at 9 p.m. and a series of short films Saturday.

2. Check out the hot Nawlins tunes of Rosie 151 and the Red Hook Ramblers at the Way Station at 683 Washington Ave., between St. Marks Avenue and Prospect Place in Prospect Heights.

3. Anyone in Fort Greene or Downtown Brooklyn see that helicopter hovering on the other side of Manhattan Bridge late Thursday afternoon? The aerial unit was likely part of the response to this fatal bicycle accident on Delancey Street between Chrystie and the Bowery.

4. The workers rights group FUREE is organizing area residents, small businesses, community and faith-based organizations to demand accountability and win changes towards fair development in Downtown Brooklyn. A link to their petition can be found here
