5 Things You Need To Know Today: Party With The Urban Bush Women

The Urban Bush Women are hosting their holiday party and a Sundance winner is playing at the Brooklyn Free School.

1. Join the Urban Bush Women for their at 8:00 at 905 Atlantic Ave bet. Saint James Place and Grand Avenue. Raise the holiday roof for $20 ($10 for students) at the Fort Greene/Bed Stuy event space and grab some free candy.

2. Tonight at 7 p.m. the Brooklyn Free School at 372 Clinton Ave (bet. Greene Avenue and Lafayette Avenue) is of the Grand Jury Prize from Sundance Film Festival Why We Fight brought to you by Fort Greene Peace. This documentary film focuses on the military industrial war complex and the ideologies and policies behind this complex. The film is followed by a discussion and Q&A session with Carolyn Eisenberg, Professor and Peace Activist.

4. The Irondale Center (85 S Oxford St bet. Greene Avenue and Lafayette Avenue) is showing tonight at 8 p.m. The Spanish-language comedic opera, translated as “Perfect Lives,” tells a tale of reincarnation. Written by Robert Ashley and directed by Alex Waterman, this opera mirrors a television style of performance in which seven episodes are shown, similar to watching TV, and changing the way opera is viewed.

5. All alternate side parking rules are in effect today.
