Week in Review

A round-up of the biggest news stories in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill this week

This is the last write-up from me as guest editor, as Fort Greene Patch is now in the very capable hands of Paul Leonard, former local editor for our Little Neck site. However, between government hearings, budget cuts and the end of the world as we know it, it was certainly a newsworthy week to depart with.

Monday saw the announcement that beloved local business will be able to resume operations until their next court hearing in July. Department of Buildings and New York Fire Department officials had shut down the business citing structural and fire zone issues, but the fire zone issues have since been withdrawn, and an architect has been hired by the shop to fix the structural problems.

On Tuesday, we talked to a divorce attorney serving the neighborhood about how much d could potentially bring into the state economy. With reports that gay marriage could bring over $390 million into the state economy over the first three years the law is put into action, we determined that gay divorce could bring in tens of millions dollars as well.

Wednesday's coverage included from our photographer, Stefano Giovannini, who was on site for the Habana Outpost Block Party. The party thrown annually by the popular local restaurant is considered to be one of the biggest events in the neighborhood each year.

On Thursday,  that budget cuts are resulting in Prospect Park cutting the majority of its educational programming. In addition, the hours worked by some part-time staff at Lefferts Historic House and the Prospect Park Audubon Center will also be decreased.
