Time To Shine: Casting Call For Models and Designers

Brooklyn Fashion Weekend seeking talent for fall runway show

Calling all models and designers! Brooklyn Fashion Weekend wants you to rock the runway this fall.

Never stomped the catwalk before or shown your threads at an event? Never fear! Media Director Colleen Gwen Armstrong and her team are seeking fresh talent for their fifth annual celebration of fashion, and are accepting online applications.

“The models and designers can be ‘newbies,’” said Armstrong.

Approximately 12-19 designers, 25 female models and 20 male models will be selected by August 31.

Brooklyn Fashion Weekend is an ideal setting for new models and designers to rub elbows with both national and international talent. American designers Nana Boteng, Loris Doran and Edwing De'Angelo have graced the BK runway in addition to Das Komittee (Germany) and Gavin Douglas (UK). Prior models selected have gone on to receive further exposure.

“One of our previous models is Shaun Ross, who is featured in Katy Perry's ‘E.T.’ video,” said Armstrong.

Sound like enough incentive to apply? Submissions are being accepted online for the first time at bkfashionweekend.com. The online forms easily streamline candidates and include extra perks for models.

Model applicants are encouraged to submit videos of themselves walking the catwalk to be featured on Brooklyn Fashion Weekend’s YouTube account. The videos will be viewable to the public, providing free promotion and a chance to keep tabs on rankings. In addition, all participants will receive a complimentary coupon for a single Latisse eyelash treatment and consultation, courtesy of Park Avenue LaserVision.

What is the Brooklyn Fashion Weekend team looking for in model submissions? Personality is key.

“We are wowed by models who are not only photogenic, but exude confidence and an energetic personality on the runway,” said Armstrong.

Designers should be prepared to showcase their Spring/Summer 2012 collections at Brooklyn Fashion Weekend. Divisions include Ready to Wear, Couture, Bridal, Accessories, Eco-Friendly and Young Designers (high school students and teens). For designers, Armstrong is seeking the total package.

“Our team looks for creativity and workmanship in a designer and the cohesiveness of their collection,” said Armstrong.

Brooklyn Fashion Weekend presented its first season in May 2006 and is a bi-annual designers collection event in Brooklyn. The founders of the event are Rick Davy and Cybele Sandy. Brooklyn Fashion Weekend is a production of the Brooklyn Style Foundation, a non-for-profit organization, which is supported by volunteer stylists, makeup artists, stage crew and interns.
