That Burning Smell Was A Giant Fire in New Jersey

Recycling plant blaze wafts all the way to Brooklyn.

On Monday night, Fort Greene more than other neighborhoods in Brooklyn, for some reason, was beset by the smell of burning rubber.

Local residents spent much of the night and early morning Tuesday wondering on social media just why the neighborhood stank like smoke and burning tires.

Turns out, it was a bunch of smoke from a burning recycling plant.

One reddit user posted on the site's Brooklyn forum, asking what the deal was.

According to NJ.com, firefighters have been on the scene at a Jersey City recycling plant, trying to put out a giant conflagration.

The fire was still burning in mid-morning Tuesday.
