New Yorkers often claim parks are their backyards, and on July 27 the Urban Park Rangers will make that claim a reality by hosting a Family Camping night in .
No need to panic and rush to the closest area though. The park provides everyone with tents, accompanied by a tent-pitching tutorial, MREs (meals ready to eat), and activities ranging from night hikes to bat watching.
Online registration for the outing begins at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, and will remain open for 24 hours. There are 30 spots, so make sure to register early. For those without Internet, you can call 718-722-3218 and rangers will manually add your name.
Have a large brood? Not a problem. Seasonal Ranger Carlos Konowalskyj said a “five person family is permissible at the very least…and tents are large.”
Though camp fires and BBQs are no longer allowed in city parks, be prepared for other nightime activities like a 9 p.m. nature walk, storytelling and more—all of which are sure to make you feel like you’re on a mini-vacation, far from the hot, concrete jungle that is July in New York City.
