Powerball Jackpot Now An Insane $550 Million

$550 million probably enough to retire on, just saying.

By Matthew Hampton

Saturday's Powerball jackpot is now $550 million, and still growing, according to the New York State Gaming Commission, and also every single news outlet in the country.

Frenzied lotto fans are practically banging down the doors of every bodega and newstand nationwide in an effort to become the next person to still probably end up in hock.

So why has the prize grown so large this time around? California, according to Time Magazine.

The country's most populous, blondest and at times most insufferable giant economy joined the other 42 states that participate in the Powerball in April, and have since accounted for eleven percent of the take, Time reported.

The drawing for what could end up being the largest jackpot in lotto history will take place at 11 p.m. Saturday, but sales are cut off at 9 p.m. so you have until then to get your ticket.

Interesting trivia: The current jackpot is enough to buy Cezanne's "The Card Players" —the most expensive painting ever sold — two times, and still have enough left over to buy an island in the Caribbean.
