Needy Families Get a 'Giant' Thanksgiving Gift

Shaun Rogers of the Super Bowl champion New York Giants helps hand out free turkeys in Fort Greene.

It was a star-studded night at Ingersoll Community Center.

Shaun Rogers, a defensive tackle for the New York Giants, joined defensive lineman Shaun Smith of the Kansas City Chiefs and rapper Fabolous to help hand out free turkeys to needy families.

"It's a great thing for our community," said Ken Joseph, who came to Thursday's event to represent his union, NYSCOPBA. "We need to give back."

Despite an injury that kept him from joining his Super Bowl-winning team on the field this season, Rogers was front-and-center helping young volunteers like Dwayne, 14, pass off Thanksgiving turkeys to people waiting in line at the community center's gym.

Coordinated by the office of Councilwoman Letitia James, D-Brooklyn, the event gave away more than 50 turkeys, according to an organizer.
