Get Out: Things To Do This Weekend

Our picks for the best way to spend the weekend in Fort Greene-Clinton Hill.

Do you like jazz music? Movies? Gardening? Theater? What about jumping around in a bouncy house after eating street fair fare? Well then, you've come to the right place because this weekend, Fort Greene and Clinton Hill delivers them all.

Brooklyn High School Jazz Fest

What? More than 85 students from four Brooklyn high schools will perform and compete at this free musical event. Legendary jazz trumpeter Cecil Bridgewater will perform as a special guest with the Long Island University Jazz Ensemble, and serve as one of the festival judges. It'll be just like Glee, but with saxophones, and no auto-tuning!

Movies Under the Stars

PS 20 Spring Fling

What? The Clinton Hill school festival and fund raiser. Local vendors and parents promise a wealth of the good things we've come to expect on a Saturday in Brooklyn - food, drinks, games, face painting, arts & crafts, shopping, and music! Plus a bouncy house (sorry - it's just for the kids).

Where? PS 20 school yard, Clermont Ave. at Willoughby Ave.

When? Saturday, May 21, 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

Revolutionary War Garden Volunteer Day

What? If you use the park as much as we do, but haven't quite gotten around to donating or volunteering, here's your chance to make your subsequent afternoons in the park guilt free!  Join the Fort Greene Park Conservancy and your neighbors and get your hands dirty in the Revolutionary Area garden, "a garden that would have been familiar to an American alive in 1776!"

When? Saturday, May 21, from 2:00–4:00 p.m.

Where? Fort Greene Park; Garden is located on the south side of the park near Willoughby Ave., behind the hospital.

How Much? Free! RSVP at Daly@fortgreenepark.org

The Atmosphere

What? Billed as "Sex in the City meets Wall Street," New York playwright and producer Tiffany Hayden-Williamson presents her tale of a group of young, savvy Wall Street professionals who turn to embezzlement, deceit and back stabbing to enrich themselves. Or in other words, just a typical week in a New York financial institution.

Where? Brooklyn Music School Playhouse, 126 Saint Felix St. between Hanson Pl. and Lafayette Ave.

When? Friday, May 20, 8:00–10:00 p.m.
