Greenlight Books Mother's Day Celebration
What? Greenlight and StoryCorps present a celebration of the women in our lives. StoryCorps founder Dave Isay will read from Mom, a collection of StoryCorps interviews by and about mothers, play audio clips of the interviews upon which the book is based, and screen StoryCorps' brand new animation, "No More Questions!" There's also free champagne and sweets while Isay signs your Mom. (The book, that is).

What? We've just learned there's other ways to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than margarita specials at Rosa Mexicano. On Saturday, the teachers and students of the Mexicanidad program at Brooklyn Music School will have their first ever recital, including traditional music and dance, and a presentation of art works.

Steve Cromity Performs
What? Smooth Jazz crooner and Brooklyn native Steve Cromity and his Trio perform along with special guest, Carol Harding. According to jazz historian Stan Meyers, and Cromity's website, "Cromity brings a polished voice, an acute jazz awareness, as well as a distinct choice of favorites." And if all those jazz standards make you feel like Sinatra yourself, the evening also will feature an open mic.

Portraits for Mommy
What? While Mom surely loved the potholders and slightly over/undercooked breakfasts in bed over the years, it might be time to get more creative. Fortunately, our friends at Still Hip are offering photo sessions all weekend, so put on your Sunday best, get some family photos, and give mom something she really wants to hang on the wall.

The KYOPO Pre-Book-Launch Celebration
What? Four diverse Korean artists--singer-songwriters Bobby Choy and Jinny Kim, folk drummer Vongku Pak, and breakdance and Taekwondo master Eugene "Loose Lee" Cho--show off the artistic breadth of the flourishing Korean diaspora in order to celebrate the release of The KYOPO Book. The KYOPO Book is part of the KYOPO Project, a portrait collection that seeks to highlight the diversity of the Korean population living outside of the country’s borders.
