Fort Greene Celebrates Spring With Dekalb Classic

Fort Greene's first month-long cocktail competition will see five of Dekalb Avenue's restaurants throw down to see who is the best of the best.

Fort Greene is gearing up to celebrate ever-festive spring with the Dekalb Classic, the first month-long cocktail competition that will see five of Dekalb Avenue's restaurants throw down to see who is the best of the best.

One bartender from Dino’s, Cornerstone, Chez Oskar, Madiba Restaurant and Roman’s respectively, will each create their own signature cocktail, two of which will be voted best by patrons over the course of April. Ticket holders who buy a $50 will enjoy a cocktail at each of the restaurants, including the Dekalb Classic cocktail, created by J. Luiz Mixology.

J. Luiz has curated the event's participants and spirits for the cocktails, and has also procured a variety of spirits to give bartenders flexibility when crafting their cocktails.

"Dekalb Ave is a destination in Fort Greene in season, with sidewalk cafes a bustle with people enjoying the variety of cuisine on offer on this veritable strip in Brooklyn," said organizer Ruen Ellis. "Saturdays alone, sees not only the Farmer’s Market in Fort Greene Park, but also the Brooklyn Flea around the corner, and the neighborhood’s eateries are alive for Brunch. New additions of late such as Walter’s and Dino has resulted in a higher quality of cuisine and a definite interest in mixology and there is no better way to celebrate spring by putting on display the best the avenue has to offer”
