Cyclist Almost Hit by Jar of Mayonnaise

Brooklyn computer programmer Stephen Arthur, who was hit by a brick while biking in 2011, almost suffered a second injury early Friday morning.

A Brooklyn cyclist and computer programmer said he was almost hit by a bottle of mayonnaise while biking in Fort Greene early Friday morning, Gothamist reported.

Stephen Arthur said the bottle only nearly missed his face as he biked down Ashland Place around 1:25 a.m. He then noticed that the surrounding area was littered with food.

“I noticed a box of spaghetti splattered on the ground, and then a honey mustard bottle splattered on the sidewalk, a Kraft ranch dressing bottle on the ground which was splattered on a parked car, other food splattered on the hood of another parked car, more food splattered on the roof of another car, and a bottle of Welch’s jelly splattered on the road,” he said.

Police said they had reports of someone throwing objects from University Towers at 122 Ashland Place, but because no one was injured, the incident was “unfounded.”

Arthur was biking under a pedestrian overpass at Navy Street in 2011 when a group of teenagers threw a brick at him, according to a Gothamist article. He suffered six stitches and road rash to his right knee, right thigh, right elbow and left wrist.
