The Day the Music Died
Despite two community bailout attempts, the local jazz bar officially closed its doors on Tuesday night. The venue owed $30,000 in water, electric, insurance, and liquor expenses. Co-owners Martin Fagan and Jamie Affournado have no immediate plans to open up a new establishment.

A New Mental Health Facility
Neighboring Brownsville will soon be operating the city’s first psychiatric residence for kids with mental illness. RTF Brooklyn will be taking over a soon-to-be closed hospital at the same location. The facility will include residential co-ed apartments and attempts are being made to partially remove the iron fences that surround the four square blocks around the facility.
A Robot Bartender
NYC Resistor’s barbot, a robot made from a Japanese slot machine that serves patrons a mixed drink randomly selected from its database, was installed Tuesday at Pacific Standard on Fourth Avenue.
The robot was created for Hackerspace Challenge, a contest sponsored by VIMBY and Scion, and included entrants from a variety of DIY-type groups from around the country. NYC Resistor’s barbot took first place
Ice Cream From Scratch
A new ice cream shop that will be the only spot in Brooklyn to make their flavors from scratch is set to open on May 17. Ample Hills, which will be located on Vanderbilt Ave., will have tons of unique flavors including Salted Crack Caramel, Breakfast Trash, and Maple Bacon.
